Ireland: New Online Application Process Causes Processing Times to Double

Ireland’s implementation of a new online application system is causing employment permit processing times to double. The delays are expected to continue at least into the New Year.
Employers in Ireland are experiencing significant employment permit processing delays due to the implementation of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Innovation’s (DETI) new online application system. Processing times are roughly twice what they were in August and September, with intracompany transferee permits taking approximately six weeks to process, and Green Card permits taking five weeks. As previously reported, the implementation of the new online application system, under which all employers are identified by their unique Employer Registration Number, was expected to cause delays, but they were expected to be minimal.
While the DETI is making every effort to clear the backlog, with the winter holiday season quickly approaching, the longer processing times are expected to continue into the New Year. Fragomen continues to monitor the situation in Ireland and will provide updates as they become available.
